Egon Schiele Art Center was founded in years 1992/93 by three private individuals after the fall of the iron Curtain between the Eastern and Western Europe. Founders recognized the unique atmosphere of that time and have significantly contributed to the idea of formatting an international art center. Cesky Krumlov, as one of the Europe most charming Renaissance towns, was the right choice.
On the area of 3000 sq. m. (largest permanent exhibition area in Cesky Krumlov) can be found not only an exhibition documenting the work and life of Egon Schiele or a permanent exhibition of his work, but also various rotating exhibits of both - classical 20th century and contemporary art.
Another section of the museum has developed into big art studio for young artists who are a long-term residing in Czech (mostly coming from Eastern or Western Europe). The art galleries were leased to Ministries of Culture and other national art institutions during last 10 years for various occasions.
Egon Schiele apartments are accessible for guests.
The Museum offers a well-stocked Museum shop and a delicious café in a typical glamour for the art lovers. Since the opening in 1993, the Egon Schiele Art Centrum has become a frequently visited institution of international importance. This project is clearly private initiative, its success are coming from a few Cesky Krumlov individual enormous devotion and financing from various sponsors, foreign grants or friends of art.
